Two mill villages on the Charles River
Medway grew around two villages on the Charles River. Medway Village, in the southeast near Town Hall, and West Medway, with the Rabbit Hill historic district on Route 109, both started as 19th-century mill communities, and both still have Federal and Greek Revival homes. Between and around them, newer subdivisions fill in with family homes on suburban lots. Choate Park, with its pond and walking path, is a local gathering spot.
Newer Medway subdivisions often share a problem with the rest of the region: thin soil over hard, stony ground. Landscaping in Medway, MA, works best when it starts below the grass.
